Flappy Bird, developed by Vietnamese developer Nguyen Ha Dong, recently shot to fame; becoming one of the most downloaded apps worldwide. The launch and popularity of this simple, unassuming game has made the world sit up and take notice of the untapped potential in Vietnam. This has also given hope to other start-ups & independent developers of Vietnam who are trying to make a mark through their apps. Nguyen Thien Phuc is one such aspiring developer.
Nguyen is studying at the Telecommunications Institute of Technology in Vietnam and is on the brink of releasing his first app soon. He started developing apps in May 2012 after joining a competition hosted by his university jointly with Nokia called ‘Nokia Tap that App’ where he and his team won the first prize. This gave him the much needed confidence to start developing apps of his own.
When Nguyen started off his biggest challenge was deciding whether he could seriously take up mobile app development as a profession. He did a little background check on what it involved and the future prospects in this field; which then strengthened his decision in following this career path.
While talking about his take on the monetization issue, Nguyen says, “Before learning about Vserv.mobi, I had no idea that how one could make money from apps. But when I got my first pay-cheque I was surprised at the amount I had made as it was a pretty substantial amount for a college student. I am definitely grateful to be introduced to Vserv.mobi.”
Nguyen found inspiration through his interactions with friends & co-developers who lay a clear and holistic picture about mobile app development and its future. He would like to pass the same learning’s to his fellow developers. He also advises that it is important to be passionate about development lest it will seem a long and tough path to follow.

As of now Nguyen hopes of starting his own outfit to sell good quality apps that will be appreciated by markets everywhere. As a long term goal, he does want to start a software company someday. We would like to wish him the best of luck following his dreams.
