There has been a marked change in the way we consume technology when it comes to personal entertainment, especially games. From consoles to PC’s to mobiles to tablets; the gaming platforms & audio-visual treatment in the entire gaming industry is changing. Major players are finding newer market avenues, fresher and more challenging ideas. Indonesia has already witnessed a growth of around 25% since 2010 and is emerging as a great place in terms of talent, audience and growth. Making their own statement, among the scheme of things is ‘Own Games’ by Eldwin Viriya.
Eldwin Viriya started Own Games in 2011 with his brother Jefvin after attending the Mobile Game Developer War 2 held by Nokia Indonesia. It sparked a need in him; to continue churning games even after the event. He soon started Own Games with the vision of developing games that will one day capture the interest of users worldwide & bring fame to his country.
When they initially started out, Viriya had a small studio with only his brother to help and whom he had to teach to code. Today, Own Games has a development team of 5 people; dedicated to pushing the quality of their products to the next level. From a time when they would only concentrate on flash games, Viriya tried to take advantage of the opportunities provided by Nokia Indonesia & platforms like Vserv to help them develop better games. One of the best games developed by them is Pet Dragon for the Nokia platform that won the INAICTA 2013, Indonesia.
While developing a game, Viriya puts in a lot of thought into monetization. He cleverly uses platforms provided by Vserv. He explains it to us by saying, “There are a lot of countries where players can’t always afford to pay to move onto the next level, and therefore we try not to release a premium game. But as we are trying not to incur a loss our self, we bank on Vserv’s features like in app purchases & in app advertisements to solve these issues. This helps us gain more players & more revenue.”
Viriya is inspired by Walt Disney who not only made his dreams come true, but the world still bears a testimony to what he believed in. He wants to follow that path & asks his peers to focus on their products too.

Currently Viriya is looking forward to building more intellectual property using his company mascot & currently famous character ‘Tako’. He wants to develop more games & characters centered on Tako. On this happy note, we would like to wish him luck & success.
